The ancient city of Ayutthaya is less than fifty miles north of Bangkok and well worth the visit. Added to UNESCO’s list of world heritage sites in 1991, it’s remains and gigantic monasteries give an idea of its past splendor. It was the Thai capital for 417 years and during this time thirty-three Kings of different dynasties ruled the kingdom until it was destroyed by the Burmese in 1767. Wandering through this once thriving place will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time.
Bangkok is an incredible city that welcomes more visitors than any other city in the world and it doesn’t take long to realize why. Catch a tuk tuk along the bustling Chinatown or take a longtail boat to marvel at the gleaming temples. This is a city of extremes and there is action on every corner.
