    After breakfast, you’ll depart Marrakech for your journey to the Atlas Mountains. As you leave the city behind, you’ll pass through vibrant neighborhoods, bustling markets, and iconic landmarks such as the Koutoubia Mosque and Djemaa el-Fna Square. The landscape gradually becomes more scenic as you drive through fertile plains and verdant valleys, dotted with olive groves, citrus orchards, and traditional Berber villages.

    As you approach the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains, the terrain becomes more rugged and mountainous. After a journey of approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, you’ll arrive in the village of Imi Oughlad, a picturesque Berber village nestled amidst the mountains, where your adventure in the Atlas Mountains begins.

    As you depart Imi Oughlad on foot, you’ll trek through lush green valleys and terraced fields, passing traditional Berber villages along the way. As you ascend towards Tizi Oussem, the trail may become steeper, with rocky paths and occasional switchbacks. The elevation gain from Imi Oughlad to Tizi Oussem ranges from approximately 600 to 800 meters, depending on the specific route and variations in terrain. Enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

    Stop for a picnic lunch amidst the stunning scenery, soaking in the tranquility of the mountains. Continue trekking towards Tizi Oussem, a picturesque village located in the Azzaden Valley. Arrive in the late afternoon and settle into your accommodation.     This morning, we’ll depart the picturesque village of Tizi Oussem and follow the trail that descends gently through terraced fields, walnut groves, and traditional Berber settlements. As you bid farewell to Tizi Oussem, you’ll be surrounded by towering peaks and lush greenery, creating a serene atmosphere for your trek.

    The trail meanders along the valley floor, following the course of the Azzaden River as it winds its way through the rugged terrain. You’ll cross rustic stone bridges and traverse narrow footpaths, passing by grazing livestock and local farmers tending to their fields.

    Throughout the trek, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, including Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa, looming majestically in the distance. The ever-changing landscape offers a feast for the senses, with vibrant wildflowers, cascading waterfalls, and dramatic rock formations lining the trail.

    As you approach the village of Imlil, the scenery transitions from remote wilderness to bustling mountain villages, with clusters of traditional Berber houses clinging to the mountainsides. The trail winds its way through the narrow streets of Imlil, where you’ll encounter friendly locals going about their daily lives amidst the stunning mountain backdrop.

    This morning we will depart Imlil and follow the well-marked trail that winds its way through picturesque valleys, lush walnut groves, and terraced fields, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountain landscape.

    As you ascend higher into the mountains, the trail becomes steeper and more rugged, with rocky paths and occasional switchbacks. Along the way, you’ll pass through traditional Berber villages, where locals go about their daily lives amidst the stunning mountain scenery.

    As you continue on the trek, you’ll gradually gain elevation, ascending towards the Toubkal Massif. Along the route, you may encounter mountain streams, cascading waterfalls, and alpine meadows, adding to the natural beauty of the landscape.

    After several hours of trekking, you’ll arrive at Refuge Toubkal, the base camp situated at an elevation of approximately 3,207 meters (10,522 feet). The refuge offers basic accommodation and facilities for trekkers, including dormitory-style sleeping quarters, meals, and hot drinks.

    Upon reaching Refuge Toubkal, you’ll be greeted with stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, providing a sense of accomplishment and anticipation for the summit ascent the following day.

    This morning,  we’ll wake up in the early hours to prepare for the challenging journey ahead, ensuring everyone has proper gear, clothing, and supplies for the ascent to the summit of Mount Toubkal.

    The trail from Refuge Toubkal to the summit initially follows a steep and rocky path, ascending steadily through alpine terrain and scree slopes. Trekkers navigate switchbacks and rocky outcrops as they make their way up the mountain, guided by the light of headlamps and the glow of the rising sun on the horizon.

    As the trek progresses, the air becomes thinner and the altitude increases, presenting a physical challenge for hikers. Proper acclimatization, hydration, and pacing are essential to ensure a safe and successful ascent.

    As dawn breaks, trekkers are rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains bathed in golden light, creating a surreal and awe-inspiring atmosphere. The final push to the summit involves negotiating the steepest sections of the trail, where hikers may need to use their hands for balance and stability.

    Finally, after several hours of strenuous effort, trekkers reach the summit of Mount Toubkal, standing at an impressive elevation of 4,167 meters (13,671 feet) above sea level. At the summit, trekkers are greeted with unparalleled panoramic views of the Atlas Mountains stretching as far as the eye can see, with the vast expanse of the Moroccan landscape unfolding below.

    After breakfast, we’ll make the descent from Refuge Toubkal to Imlil following the same trail we used for the ascent. Trekkers make their way down the mountain, navigating rocky paths and switchbacks as they descend through alpine terrain and scenic valleys.

    Upon reaching Imlil, trekkers are greeted with the familiar sights and sounds of the village, signaling the end of their mountain adventure. In Imlil, trekkers may have the opportunity to rest, enjoy a meal, and explore the village before continuing the journey back to Marrakech.

    As trekkers travel back to Marrakech, they leave behind the tranquility of the mountains and re-enter the vibrant hustle and bustle of the city. Upon arrival in Marrakech, trekkers may choose to return to their accommodations, relax and unwind, or explore the city further, reflecting on their unforgettable journey to the summit of Mount Toubkal.

    Do I need travel insurance?

    Travel insurance with medical evacuation and repatriation as well as hiking insurance is mandatory for this trip. This should cover high-altitude trekking of at least 13,671 ft and should be on a ‘non-reimbursement’ basis so the insurer will pay for the hospital bills immediately, as opposed to claiming when you get home. We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance which provides coverage for trip interruption, flight cancellation, and loss of baggage.
