Overnight in Arusha - Gran Melia Arusha Hotel

After breakfast, we’ll drive to Tarangire National Park for our first game drive with a picnic lunch. Tarangire National Park is one of Tanzania's lesser-known but highly captivating wildlife destinations. Located in the northern part of the country, it covers an area of approximately 2,850 square kilometers and is named after the Tarangire River, which flows through the park.
Tarangire is renowned for its impressive diversity of wildlife, making it a fantastic safari destination. The park is home to a wide range of animals, including large herds of elephants, zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, and buffalo. It's also a great place to spot predators like lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Compared to more famous Tanzanian parks like the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire tends to attract fewer tourists. This means you can enjoy a more intimate safari experience with fewer vehicles and a greater sense of exclusivity.

During the dry season (from June to October), Tarangire becomes a crucial water source for wildlife due to its permanent water supply from the Tarangire River. This results in large gatherings of animals, especially elephants, which migrate to the park in search of water and green vegetation.

Bird enthusiasts will be delighted by the park's abundant birdlife. Over 500 bird species have been recorded in Tarangire, making it a prime location for birdwatching. You can spot various species of raptors, waterbirds, and colorful migratory birds, especially during the wet season.

Our lodge this evening is the Ngorongoro Marera Mountain View Lodge, located in an idyllic location in the green Marera Valley just before Karatu village. It serves as a wonderful base for travelers wishing to explore the famous Manyara National Park and interact with Maasai tribes. Designed to be a haven of luxury and relaxation, the 24 rooms are in separate cottages overlooking the Marera Valley and Ngorongoro Forest. Each room has a fireplace with comfortable chairs, a desk with a tea and coffee station, mosquito nets, and a spacious bathroom.

The nearby village of Karatu offers a variety of activities including browsing the bustling marketplace, sampling beer at a local brewery, visiting a traditional homestead, or taking a guided walk through the Ngorongoro Forest in search of waterfalls and caves.

After an early breakfast, you will take a trip back in time, and meet the Hadzabe (Hazda) tribe. This tribe is hunter-gatherers who are one of the last tribes on earth to communicate using a clicking language. Experience their lifestyle and follow the hunters in the bush.
Nearby, you’ll meet the Datoga (blacksmith) tribe and watch them use traditional methods to melt metals and craft tools such as arrowheads, knives, etc, and beautiful jewelry out of molten steel. You can also visit a local village and walk on Lake Eyasi banks with a local guide.

Tucked between the Kidero Mountains in the south and the Eyasi Escarpment in the north, Lake Eyasi is situated in a remote, dry, arid landscape just south of Tanzania’s renowned Serengeti National Park. This seasonal lake features dry salt beds and is home to a variety of birdlife such as flamingos and pelicans. Beautiful surroundings of woodlands, forests, and ancient baobabs beckon to be explored, with numerous excellent walking trails.

As we approach the Maasai village, you'll likely be greeted by Maasai warriors, adorned in their distinctive red shukas (cloaks) and beaded jewelry. The Maasai are known for their warm hospitality and will often invite you to join them with a friendly "Karibu!" (Welcome!). A visit to a Maasai village boma is not only a chance to appreciate their unique culture but also an opportunity to support the local community through tourism. It's a meaningful way to gain a deeper understanding of the rich traditions and heritage of the Maasai people while contributing positively to their way of life.

After breakfast, we’ll head to the Ngorongoro crater for a game drive and a picnic lunch. In the afternoon we continue crossing the highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the entrance of Serengeti National Park. Along the way, we’ll make a stop at the Olduvai Gorge, an archaeological treasure trove and a window into our distant past. Renowned as the "Cradle of Mankind," this ancient rift valley has yielded some of the most significant hominid fossil discoveries, including the iconic 1.8 million-year-old Homo habilis skull. It offers a remarkable journey through time, showcasing the evolution of early humans and their tools. The gorge's stratified layers have preserved a wealth of fossils, making it a pivotal site for understanding human ancestry and prehistoric life on Earth. Visitors to Olduvai Gorge are treated to a fascinating glimpse into our evolutionary history while surrounded by the stunning landscapes of the Great Rift Valley.

The Serengeti is the most beautiful park in all of Africa, a boundless plain that you can admire from the viewpoint at Naabi Gate. The Great Migration moves in the park in search of fresh pastures by crossing the rivers infested with crocodiles. It is the best park for spotting cats and predators in general. We’ll continue the game drive to our accommodation this evening.

The Serengeti Kifaru Tented Lodge is a wonderful luxury tented lodge inside Serengeti National Park. The lodge is located next to the main Serengeti attractions like Seronera and Central Serengeti game drive circuits, Retima Hippo Pool, the river circuit, and the famous Kopjes of Serengeti.

Our accommodation comprises 8 elevated tented stands. Each comfortable tent is set in the middle of the Serengeti Savannah. Each tent features a private en-suite bathroom fitted with a shower, a sitting area, a desk, and a fireplace. Bush breakfasts, sundowners, and bush dinners can be arranged.

This is something you really must experience for yourself.

Situated in the heart of Tanzania, the Central Serengeti encompasses the world-famous Seronera Valley which is known for its prime wildlife-viewing opportunities. This picture-perfect landscape is characterized by endless stretches of savannah-covered open plains interspersed by rocky outcrops of granite and scattered with acacia woodlands and covered in a network of rivers and streams. The Central Serengeti forms part of the great wildebeest and zebra migration and provides an ideal habitat for a variety of wildlife such as giraffe, impala, waterbuck, hippo, elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, hyena, jackal, serval, and much more.
