PLACES YOU'LL VISIT
DAILY ITINERARY
Today is arrival day, so there are no activities planned. You are free to relax or explore the city. Athens is the historical capital of Europe, with a long history, dating from the first settlement in the Neolithic age, 5th Century BC. Our hotel will be located near the Acropolis and is surrounded by small art museums, galleries, jewelry museums, cafes, and restaurants.
This morning, we’ll meet our licensed, expert guide for a comprehensive city tour of Athens to see the modern sights in the city, as well as the most important ancient sights that have been standing for millennia.
Start at the Syntagma metro station for a 10-minute tour inside the station’s museum. Archaeological artifacts uncovered during the metro’s construction offer insight into daily life here thousands of years ago. The next stop is the Greek Parliament, followed by the Monument to the Unknown Soldier where you will watch the Changing of the Guards.
The walk continues to the National Gardens of Athens, Zappeion, and Hadrian’s Arch. The route passes by the Plaka and Anafiotika district to reach the next and final stop, the Acropolis, which is one of the most visited and culturally revered ancient sights in the world. It continues to stand higher than the metropolis built around it, offering panoramic views of the entire capital.
Entering on the south slope of the Acropolis, you’ll visit the Dionysus Sanctuary and Dionysus Theater before you walk up the slope leading to the Acropolis monuments. Panoramic views of the city will be perfect for Instagram-ready photos. During your tour, you’ll gain insight into the significance of the historic monuments of the Acropolis, including the Parthenon, the Erechtheion, the Propylaia, the Nike Temple as well as other significant sights of Athens including the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the Ancient Agora, the National Observatory of Athens and the city’s scenic hills, Filoppapos, Mars, and Pnyx.
After our tour, the afternoon is free for you to explore this incredible city at your leisure. Spend some time at the New Acropolis Museum, a striking modern masterpiece located just steps from the Acropolis itself, designed to showcase the treasures of ancient Greece in an environment flooded with natural light. Opened in 2009, the museum houses over 4,000 artifacts found on the sacred rock and its surrounding slopes, including original sculptures from the Parthenon. Visitors can walk on glass floors revealing archaeological excavations beneath their feet and enjoy breathtaking views of the Acropolis through the museum’s expansive glass walls. It’s a must-visit for anyone wanting to connect ancient history with contemporary Greek culture, all in one unforgettable experience.
This morning, you’ll have more free time in Athens before we go to the Alimos Marina, where you’ll be greeted by our yacht crew. Along the way, we’ll make a stop for groceries to stock up for the week (please budget $200-250 per person for breakfast, lunch, snacks, and non-alcoholic drinks for the week). After unpacking our belongings, we’ll receive a safety briefing in the cockpit before we set sail on the Saronic Gulf. Your home for the next 7 nights is an 8-passenger (plus 2 crew members) sailing catamaran, equipped with air conditioning, ensuite bathrooms, a spacious kitchen, and a saloon with a coffee machine, refrigerator, sink, oven, and stove. An experienced skipper and hostess will accompany you on your journey to sail and dock the yacht, in addition to taking care of the cooking and cleaning. Relax on the front netting and soak in that Mediterranean sunshine.
The Saronic Islands feature some of the best off-the-beaten-path destinations in all of Greece. This route is perfect for guests looking for an authentic Greek island sailing experience. The sailing consists of calmer seas, shorter sail times, and opportunities for longer swim stops between islands.
Depending on the wind and weather, you may visit Aegina, Poros, Hydra, Spetses, Porto Heli, Ermioni, Epidaurus, Tyros, Agistri, Methana, or Nafplio while island hopping around the Saronic Gulf. Renowned for their lush landscape, stunning neoclassical architecture, and vibrant restaurant and nightlife scene, these islands give you the opportunity to visit archaeological sites, cliff jump into the Aegean, hike ancient paths, go snorkeling at a sunken city, and take donkey rides through cobblestone streets.
After spending our last night on the yacht in the marina, we’ll say our goodbyes to our crew before disembarking the yacht. We’ll have private transportation to take us to the airport for departure, or you can choose our trip extension to spend a couple of nights in Santorini.

FAQs
The weather and winds play a crucial role in the islands you’ll visit during your sailing adventure. This is the main reason it’s not possible to plan your route prior to arriving in Athens. Your skipper will discuss route options when you get to the marina. We will do our best to visit islands that offer hiking, diving/ snorkeling, visiting historical sites, and some that are less touristy. The Saronic route features incredibly beautiful islands, which include a range of different ports. Some islands feature a mix of colorful architecture, typical blue/white buildings, as well as marbled castle towns, with shorter sail times and generally calmer seas.
Sailing time between islands in the Saronic Gulf is typically 2-4 hours, with generally mild winds and sea conditions
We will board the yacht on Saturday afternoon, spend the night in the marina, and set sail on Sunday morning. We will return to Athens on the following Friday afternoon and spend the night in the marina again, disembarking on Saturday morning.
Yes! Extend your stay in Greece on the beautiful island of Santorini. Our preferred hotel is Mr & Mrs White Oia, a chic 4-star boutique hotel blending traditional Cycladic architecture with modern elegance. Perched just outside Oia’s bustling center, it offers serene surroundings, stylish whitewashed rooms, and beautiful sea or pool views. Guests can unwind by the two outdoor swimming pools, enjoy Mediterranean cuisine, and watch Santorini’s famous sunsets in peace—away from the crowds yet close enough to explore Oia’s iconic caldera views, shops, and restaurants. Just add this to your booking in the checkout and we will make all of the arrangements including your airport transfer.
Our crew is dedicated to making your trip unforgettable, and tipping is a wonderful way to express appreciation for their efforts. In the yachting culture of Greece, tipping holds significant value as genuine feedback on the crew’s performance. We recommend tipping your captain and hostess 15-20% of the total trip price. Cash is the preferred method; however, if you find yourself short on cash (or unable to get to an ATM) at the end of the trip, you can reach out to us, and we can arrange to collect the tip through Venmo or Zelle.
The Yacht will come equipped with bedding, towels, AC & fans (in the saloon & cabins), WiFi, USB sockets, board games, a radio player, and water toys. The kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, freezer, stove/oven, coffee maker, cooking utensils, cutlery, and a hot water kettle.
Yes, the yacht has a built-in radio player with external speakers.
The yachts can accommodate 8 passengers and 2 crew members
The cabins on sailing yachts are meant to be a nice, cozy place for napping and sleeping. There isn’t much space for standing or walking around. On most yachts, the standard bed size is equal to a queen-sized bed. Each cabin has windows (Deck hatches), which work as skylights as well as a way to let in sun and a nice cross breeze. There is some space for storing clothing and other personal items; however, storage space in the cabins and the yacht in general is limited.
Sorry, a single supplement is not available for this trip. You will be sharing a queen-sized bed with another female.
No, your skilled and experienced captain will navigate and sail the yacht, and the hostess will provide assistance with raising the sails and while anchoring in the ports.
There is a wide range of activities on the Islands, from horseback riding to ATV rentals to scuba diving. Activities do not need to be arranged before you arrive in Greece. However, we recommend speaking to the captain when you arrive. If any transportation or activities need to be booked in advance, the captain will phone ahead while on charter. Recent laws have changed, making it more difficult for US citizens to rent vehicles (including ATVs or scooters) in Greece. Many places now require you to have an International Driver’s Permit. The best place to obtain this is AAA.
Cell service is very good throughout the Greek Islands, so you’ll likely have service throughout most of your journey. We recommend that you check with your provider to make sure your phone will work while overseas and you have the best possible pricing plan.
Sea sickness is relatively uncommon on smaller vessels like catamarans, especially when the seas are calm. However, if you are prone to sea sickness, it is a good idea to bring medication. Please inform your captain of seasickness concerns at the start of your trip.
Your hostess will prepare breakfast and lunches throughout the journey, but you should provide dietary restrictions/ allergies upon booking. You will need to purchase any alcoholic beverages and specific items you wish to have on board, as these are not included.
As far as meals and provisions, the following is included:
Breakfast: Generally consists of an assortment of pastries, cereal, yogurt, fruit, cheese, bread, etc.
Lunch: This meal will consist of authentic Greek/ Mediterranean dishes prepared with fresh ingredients from the Islands.
Also, an assortment of snacks and non-alcoholic beverages will be included (water, coffee, fruit, juices, snacks)
*Dinners are not included because we recommend dining out at one of the incredible local restaurants on the island
